Me and the plants,
We both need a tall glass of water.
The cat, too.
And probably most of this town.
I just gave the impatiens theirs,
sweet and cool,
dripping over their legs and mine,
between our toes
and we both went,
“Ahhhh.”
But it wasn’t quite what I had in mind.
The cat looks at me with his tongue out,
Paws asking for ice,
And the town news is full of boiled brains and
“Bursting into flames as soon as we step out the door.”
My head explodes, too.
My back needs a new shirt after brushing my teeth.
My arms are heavy, waterlogged with humidity.
And I’m certainly tempted to let the fans
Dress me in nothing but breeze –
Which brings me back to my point.
Me and the plants both need a tall glass of water,
But I’d just be happy with you.
